Sault Ste. Marie, otherwise known as the Northern gateway to Canada, plays a major role in connecting Lake Superior and Lake Huron at the famous Soo Locks. This city located besides the rapids of the St. Marys River that offers great conditions for fish gathering, boasts of fishing as the main income-generating endeavor.

The population of this third largest city in North Ontario, Canada is 75000 people. The city’s population consists of a large percentage of Europeans and a smaller portion is for the Asians. The Italian immigrants however are dominant here. The drinking age in this city is fairly younger. Citizens above 19 are allowed at the bar counters.

How to Get Around

Traveling to Sault Ste. Marie is not a problem, getting around in this big city can be quite the challenge. From the airport to your desired hotel, car-rental options will be at your disposal. They vary in terms of charges and services. There is the Enterprise and the Budget option.

After settling in Sault Ste. Marie, you can be accustomed to the public transport system that operates the streets. It involves a series of a fleet of over 26 buses. At the bus station, Greyhound Canada controls the buses that follow a regular circuit along Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

If you are disabled and cannot walk long distances or climb the three steps at the bus’ doorstep, the Para buses are specifically offered for you. Besides the Para buses there are the community buses that serves everyone besides being specifically rolled out to serve the disabled. They pass and make stops through the shopping malls, shopping centers and close to the local grocery stores. You can make use of them while in Sault Ste. Marie.
