For American citizens, they can be acquired through the AAA (American Automobile Association). Canadians should consult the CAA (Canadian Auto Association). Americans traveling to either Turkey or Russia need to have visas that are valid alongside their passports. Getting one happens to be a complicated process. Worse, it can go on for weeks, well after approval has been granted. As such, it would do you well to begin early. Put Together a Europe Travel Budget As you plan your European vacation, endeavor to put together a budget early – even before a destination has been decided on. You want to do it before travel dates have been established and an itinerary has been put together. Some destinations will be more expensive than others. Companies like Rick Steve's Europe, Trafalgar, G Adventures, and Intrepid Travel specialize in group tours. Booking Your Airfare Airfare will likely be the costliest aspect of the trip. As such, endeavor to schedule it before any other expense (hotel, car rental, etc.). Doing so will give you more flexibility with your timeframe, which will go a long way towards getting a deal on a flight. You'll also end up spending less money by using an international discount airline (Norwegian and Aer Lingus are a couple of examples). Review several booking websites, including ones that let you perform meta-searches (like Skyscanner). You should also have a look at conventional booking websites like Expedia. In doing so, you will see what options are on the table for you. Think about factoring in a layover along the way. Icelandair offers a program that lets passengers flying to various places in Europe take a stopover for free in Reykjavik (and remain there for as long as seven nights). Travelers on a budget should be mindful that house swapping, farm stays, homestays, and vacation rentals are accommodation choices that are a lot more affordable than they used to be. Look at sites to ensure that you get the best possible deal. Have a look at reviews from guests who made reservations in the past to see the kind of experiences they had. Consider Getting Travel Insurance Several travel insurance options are available to you – insurance for trip cancellations, flight cancellations, and even medical insurance. Be Prepared for Last-Minute Surprises Before the departure date, handle some of the smaller (but essential) logistics involved with the trip, including booking a pet sitter or house sitter, preparing your phone for international use, and foreign exchange. Let the credit card company know that you'll be vacationing abroad. Ask them if any fees will be charged for the use of the credit card overseas. Find out where ATMs are in the places you are going to, particularly if you will need to depend on cash. Will your mobile device be able to make overseas calls? What is the cost of doing so? Many cell phone service providers have short-term international plans you can buy to accommodate the period you are traveling within. Also, consider using a device for mobile hotspots that allow you to remain connected. Packing Your Bags When researching the place you're interested in visiting, think about what the climate is like when you'll be going there. Seven days or so before the trip, have a look at the forecast. Most of western and central Europe have climates that are milder all year long. However, a heatwave or monsoon may also be involved, depending on where you go. As such, you are encouraged to pack clothing that is simple to layer. Bring a travel umbrella or packable raincoat when vacationing in Europe. Some of the places you will be visiting are a lot more stylish than places in North America. Packing for a vacation will require a different kind of mindset compared to the other kinds of trips you have taken. Also, put some thought into how your money will be carried around. Replacing your electric travel toothbrush might be expensive and you may not be able to find the brand you like once abroad. Euro Tours Europe happens to be a big tour group destination. When tour groups come to mind, you probably think of travelers in hordes clicking their cameras before moving onto their next attraction. Once upon a time, that was a reasonably accurate image. Nowadays, it is completely outdated. Group tours have significantly evolved. They are a lot more diverse and nuanced than they were in our parent's time. Group tours cater to travel styles and age groups of all sorts. You can take tours by backpacking, bussing, river cruising, and even ones that you can hop on and off of. There is no shortage of tour selections to pick from. Regardless of the type of experience you are interested in (or what your budget allocates), you'll discover plenty of insightful and fantastic tours that can truly optimize your European vacation. New Europe This tour company comes highly recommended. Their knowledgeable guides provide insight into all major tourist areas. Whether you're interested in historical sites (like Edinburgh Castle), they even offer specialized tours, food tours, or day trips. You'll find them in all sorts of places in Europe. Don't forget to tip the guides once the tour ends. The average tour lasts approximately three hours or so. Pricing for premium tours starts at 15 EUR for each person, based on the tour's duration.
