Prince George located at the crossroads of Highway 16 and 97 and at the confluence of the Fraser River and the Nechako River is the biggest city in the northern British Columbia Province in Canada and is actually its Northern Capital. It has a population of 71,973 and plays an important role in the culture and economy of the province. As a service hub and a supply source for one of Canada’s fastest growing regions, it has come a long way from the fur trading post that it started out as. It has a rich history and holds a number of attractions for tourists with a comprehensive transport system and adequate sewer and water facilities to ensure that both the throngs of tourists as well as the residents are sufficiently supplied. Major Attractions Bakerville Travelling to Prince George is a journey to culture and a thriving history which is what this gold rush town offers. Tourists are able to explore the town under the guidance of a character from Bakerville’s rich and colorful past and see the notoriously infamous Judge Begbie in action. Exploration Place The science and history museum allows curious children and adults who have a hankering for the sciences and history to have wonderful hands-on experience learning about a wide range of subjects. Where to Have Fun Famous Players 6 Cinemas This is a 6 screen cinema with a wide selection of movies which is also equipped with a gaming and concession area for the perfect family outing. Aquatic Centre This is heaven for the water lovers with a competition pool consisting of 8 lanes 50 meters long and a leisure wave pool with bubbles, overhead sprays, 3 feet high waves and a lazy river channel. How to Get Around Prince George is easily accessible by commercial bus, air and rail. It is located at the intersection of the Yellowhead which refers to Highway 16 and Highway 97. There is considerable truck traffic as the city has extensive facilities in place for the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and trucks. The local public transportation comprises of the bus service provided by PG Transit. Greyhound Bus lines also provide bus services on a daily basis to the following places: Alberta and Edmonton to the east, Fort St. John to the north, Prince Rupert to the west and Vancouver to the south. CN Rail serves the inland Port that goes to Prince Rupert and the Prince George train station located at 1300 – 1st Avenue also offers rail services with the Jasper – Prince Rupert train spending overnights at the rail station. The CNR freight lines along with the Via Rail Passenger service also operates out of the city making travelling to Prince George as well as around the city pretty hassle-free. Westjet and Air Canada provide the main air connection from Prince George to the outside world.
